JOB DESCRIPTION
This position is located in Columbus, OH and will travel 90% of the
time within the organization's footprint
Position Title: (Senior) Circuit Rider and General Safety
Coordinator
Reports To: Senior Manager of Member Training & Safety
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Basic Functions: Serves as a trainer, and technical advisor to
member communities for the Circuit Rider program, safety programs,
and special projects.
Essential Functions:
1. Provides contract services via the Circuit Rider program in such
areas as: maintaining and operating an electric utility system;
organizing or reorganizing an electric department; assisting in
budgeting, record-keeping and system planning; recommending
consultants; training personnel.
2. Coordinates and schedules work directly with members in a manner
representative of AMP's mission, vision and values statements while
providing excellent customer service.
3. Completes hands-on operational and maintenance work on
distribution systems (15kV and below). Ability to climb and work
from a bucket is required.
4. Routinely completes and submits written Job Hazard Analysis
(JHA/tail gate) worksheets and documents completed work
activities.
5. Assists the Safety Department by providing safety education
programs and OSHA driven annual training for lineworkers at select
member communities on a routine basis. This includes but is not
limited to providing pole top and bucket rescue training for
designated members. Plans, coordinates and evaluates quarterly
safety visits to designated members.
6. Assists with Lineworker Training on an as needed basis.
7. Assists in special projects such as Infrared testing at member
communities, the set-up for the Lineworker Rodeo, and the
development and presentations at the Lineworker Training programs
to the membership.
8. At the request of the Members, conducts accident investigations,
prepares reports and assists with OSHA inspections/investigations.
Identifies workplace hazards through safety inspections, review of
accident reports and first reports of injury, creates Health and
Safety Plans for the member's use, and develops associated "Written
Safety Plans" and manuals.
9. Maintain knowledge on current safety/ OSHA topics, rules, and
regulations.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications:
1. High school diploma required, two-year technical degree
desirable.
2. A Journeyman Lineperson with a minimum of two (2) years'
experience is required for Circuit Rider and General Safety
Coordinator. Supervisory experience is preferred. A Journeyman
Lineperson with a minimum of five (5) years' experience and two (2)
years of supervisory experience is required for a Senior Circuit
Rider and General Safety Coordinator.
3. Experience with safety related programs in the electric utility
field is preferred.
4. Completes hands-on operational and maintenance work on
distribution systems (15kV and below). Ability to climb and work
from a bucket is required.
5. Previous experience with municipal electric systems is
desired.
6. A qualified journeyman lineworker with a state or other industry
related certification is preferred.
7. Electric industry experience with a working knowledge of
Safety/OSHA rules/ regulations and electric utility industry NESC
and NFPA 70E experience is required.
8. OSHA 500/501 OSHA Outreach Instructor desired or ability to
obtain certification within 36 months is required.
9. Must be a certified CPR, First Aid, Forklift Operator and
Flagger instructor, or obtain certification within 12 months.
10. Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills are
required with the ability to interact effectively with employees,
management and elected officials within our member communities.
Experience in a municipal environment is strongly preferred.
11. Must be able to set and maintain a schedule, meeting deadlines
and effectively communicate about completed tasks.
12. Must be self-motivated, detail and team oriented, with
excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
13. Public speaking experience a necessity.
14. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, primarily PowerPoint
is preferred.
15. Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds is required with the
ability to occasionally lift/move equipment that weighs 200
pounds.
16. Must possess a valid CDL license and be willing to travel 90%
of the time within the organization's footprint.
