Health and Addiction Services is seeking an engaging, visionary and
mission-driven physician leader to serve as its Chief Medical
Officer (CMO). Providing strategic vision, leadership, and
operational oversight as the senior clinical leader of six regional
psychiatric hospitals, the CMO will play a pivotal role in setting
the agenda for the state-wide behavioral health ecosystem. This
leader will provide strategic clinical leadership to the
organization's 2,000 dedicated professionals and will ensure
high-quality care while advancing the organization as a
best-in-class leader in behavioral health.More about the
position:The CMO is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance,
clinical innovation, and high-quality care in the areas of mental
health and addiction treatment. Appointed by the Director of Ohio
Mental Health and Addiction Services, this individual will lead and
advise on medical diagnosis, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation,
quality assurance, and all clinical aspects across OhioMHAS. This
includes oversight of licensure of hospitals, residential
facilities, and outpatient facilities, as well as research,
community addiction and mental health plans, and certification and
delivery of addiction and mental health services. The role requires
a collaborative leader who can work across multiple sectors,
including public health, healthcare, policy, and community
services, to enhance service delivery and improve health outcomes
for vulnerable populations.The Chief Medical Officer will exercise
clinical supervision of the Chief Clinical Officers of the
organization's six hospitals and institutions under the
jurisdiction of the department and will be responsible for advising
the Director on clinical matters within the department's scope. The
Chief Medical Officer will also participate in the development of
guidelines for community addiction and mental health plans and be
tasked with other initiatives as established by the Director.As
mental health becomes even more of a national priority, the Chief
Medical Officer will also have the chance to make a meaningful
impact on the state and potentially at a national level by setting
a vision and continuing to push innovation within OhioMHAS and
across the state of Ohio. Building on OhioMHAS' existing programs
and services, the CMO will have the ability to create and execute a
strategy for expanded channels of care and comprehensive behavioral
health services for all Ohioans, from prevention to treatment and
recovery, that will result in greater health equity and quality
care to the broader Ohio population.Key Responsibilities:Clinical
Leadership:
- Provide clinical oversight and direction for all mental health
and addiction services, ensuring evidence-based practices and
continuity of care
- Develop and implement clinical policies, procedures, and
protocols that adhere to best practices and regulatory
standards
- Lead and support quality improvement initiatives to enhance
patient care, safety, and outcomesStrategic Planning and Policy
Development:
- Collaborate with executive and senior leadership to develop and
implement long-term strategies that align with the organization's
mission and state healthcare priorities
- Guide the integration of behavioral health and addiction
services with other state healthcare programs to ensure
comprehensive care
- Advocate for policies that promote mental health and addiction
treatment services, including prevention, early intervention, and
treatment expansionStakeholder Collaboration and Representation:
- Serve as the clinical liaison to government agencies,
healthcare providers, and community organizations to coordinate
care and align efforts in improving mental health services
- Represent the organization at state and national levels,
serving as a spokesperson for mental health and addiction
services.Workforce Development and Clinical Supervision:
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to clinical staff,
including physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, and other healthcare
professionals
- Lead efforts in the recruitment, retention, and professional
development of clinical staff to ensure a skilled and responsive
workforceRegulatory and Compliance Oversight:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal
regulations, including licensing and accreditation standards
- Oversee the implementation of quality assurance and risk
management programs to meet clinical and operational performance
metricsInnovation and Program Development:

- Eligible or certified by the American board of psychiatry and
neurology or the American osteopathic board of neurology and
psychiatry
- Five years of clinical experience
- Two years of administrative experience
- Certification or substantial training and experience in the
field of addiction medicine or addiction psychiatryPreferred
Qualifications:
- Broad experience in both clinical care and administrative
roles
- Experience working within state or government healthcare
systems, and specifically within public psychiatric hospitals
- Experience in forensic psychiatric care strongly preferred
- Familiarity with state and federal legislative mandates
