Ports of Indiana (POI) is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as Business Development Director. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Business Development Director will play a key role in expanding statewide port programs and connecting international business opportunities with special emphasis on the greater Chicago, Louisville, Evansville, and Indianapolis metropolitan area markets.Responsibilities:

• Attract and expand businesses that use Indiana's ports and generate value to the State of Indiana
• Develop and execute business development strategies that align with the mission of Ports of Indiana
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including shipping lines, rail operators, real estate developers, and government agencies
• Represent Ports of Indiana at conferences, tradeshows, customer visits, and international trade missions
• Conduct thorough market research to identify trends, opportunities, and potential threats, developing strategic business plans and identify target markets for expansion
• Collaborate with economic development agencies to foster growth in local and regional markets.
• Prepare regular reports on business development activities, pipeline status, and forecasts
• Partner with internal teams to ensure effective project developmentQualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree Business Administration, Transportation, Logistics, or a related field preferred (highly qualified candidates without a degree will be considered)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in business development, preferably with a focus on maritime and/or rail transportation, container shipments, and/or real estate development
  • Experience in fields such as port development, multimodal logistics, maritime shipping, railroad operations, real estate development, foreign-trade zones, container shipping and/or economic development is highly desirable
  • Proven record of successfully developing and implementing business development strategies.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, planning and implementation skills
  • The role can be based in any of our four locations in Indianapolis, Burns Harbor, Jeffersonville, or Mount Vernon
